We've signed up for swim lessons at the Brisbane Community Pool, in the town where Aunt Danielle & Uncle Peter just moved.
We showed up early for our first class today, remembering the panicked shrieks from Deven when we last has him in lessons (prior to Rohan's arrival) in an indoor pool in San Francisco.
This time was much different, and better, for a few reasons:
1. The pool - outdoor, warm solar-heated water, Goldilocks (not too big/not too small, just right), clean, with a walk-in 0- water level for handicapped access that's also great for fearful little ones, and at this time of day, not too crowded but with a fun adult water aerobics class going on concurrently, so the boys could see Other People - Big People, bouncing and having fun in the water.
2. The weather- while a little bit windy, it was sunny and the pool protected from the big winds. Pools should be outdoors!
3. The other kids - as it turns out, one of Deven's classmates, Catherine, & her little brother Ryan, take lessons here at the same time (she's already in a more-advanced class).
4. The boys- properly outfitted with swimsuits & swim shirts (though as we learned, goggles could be useful); & more importantly, mature enough to not howl the entire time.
To the contrary, after we got Rohan in his swimsuit - at first he was quite reticent - but as you can see, once he realized where the water was shallow, he became our little sunfish. He was in water up to his neck & I was more worried than he was (see him facing the camera here).
Deven, for his part, did well in class & both boys grinned, laughed, & splashed nicely the entire time (see him watching the teacher along with other kids here).
Yay!
