Play with me, brother!

Ha ha!

Aaa-aaaaaaaah!

Hee hee!

Ik-eek-eek-hee hee-huh!

GRIN

GRIN-DROOL

GRIN-BBBBTH.

Yep, faithful readers, I am proud to report the above as a true and factual accounting of a conversation yesterday between Deven and Rohan. The two of them have begun to interact and play with each other. Though they're not saying much yet (at least not much that we in the potty-trained set can understand), it's clear that they have fun together and, if this trend continues, should (we hope) become fast friends.

We've had a wonderful weekend here, went to two different beaches - Crissy Field in San Francisco on Saturday afternoon, and Robert State Park in Alameda today. Both were wonderful, and except that we forgot beach-toys both days (& I got a little sunburned despite SPF 1001+), a great time was had by all.

WHO'S THE BALDIE?

Photos are of Auntie Heather and Cousin Ante (who, Heather reported, has 2 teeth now, but still is as bald as the day he was born).

Isn't Ante cute?

Auntie Heather invited us to come to their vacation home on Cedar Lake, Indiana this summer. We are hoping to take her up on the offer - we're trying to coordinate a bathroom remodel @ home to finally give us 2 bathrooms (yay!) - but the work will be painful (boo) - so we want to be away for at least 1 week during that time.

I'm not sure Tommy approved the invite before it went out...but the cat's outta the bag now, so watch out! :)

Daddy's Tired

Daddy yawned. Daddy should sleep.

...this is what Deven told Daddy, when Daddy was reading Deven a goodnight story tonight and Daddy yawned. Daddy agreed. Why? Well, Rohan has gotten a little bit better at night, but still isn't really sleeping, per se. He will go down ~ 7 - 9 pm (notice the later down-time...but he just won't go down earlier - and what are we supposed to do...let a cute gurgling/happy/giggling baby lay there to fuss? No...so we don't) - we then dream feed ~ 11:00pm, and a few nights, he's actually made it through until 5:00am.

...but then Deven will cry out. We think he's teething (2 year molars).

...and if he doesn't, Rohan will wake somewhere ~ 2 - 4am. And Daddy often is getting him because Mommy's back hurts (really).

So, Daddy's tired!

NAANI & GRANDPA'S VISIT

Naani and Grandpa came this weekend as part of their cross-country tour. It was great to see them, and spend a nice Father's Day weekend with them. Saturday, we went strawberry picking at a local pick-your-own farm, and Sunday we visited the USS Hornet historic Naval aircraft carrier, then visited Danielle and Peter, who were reading on the shore and kitesurfing at Carlsbad State Beach in Alameda, respectively.

Their visit was too short, especially considering the nice weather we enjoyed at the USS Hornet and on the beach on Sunday afternoon. I'm now mounting a very-public campaign to get Naani & Granddad to buy property within 1 hour of our home here (lots of foreclosed homes in the San Francisco exurbs!), and within 1 hour of Heather's home in Chicago (...and you thought San Francisco area real estate was cheap...just wait until you look at the bargains in the Chicagoland area!)

...So, if anyone reading this is a friend or cohort of my parents, help me convince them! ;-)

Rohan's First Haircut

...wasn't really meant to happen this weekend, but it did. Because Deven freaked out. I mean FREAKED OUT, when we took him to get a trim recently. He did this last time Yogesh took him as well - and it ended with a poorly-executed haircut, a traumatized kid, and a true fear of scissors. Look carefully @ the photo and you can see a perfectly-straight bald spot where Rohan's hair was trimmed as an experiment to get his Big Brother Deven to try to calm down...an experiment that didn't quite work.

This Saturday morning, we took Deven to a hairdresser, where he was so fearful that we even tried taking scissors to Rohan's head and snipped a few locks (unevenly above his ear) - but Deven wasn't buying the "it's safe" routine.

I tried repeating "Hairdressers are nice" to Deven - which he was happy to repeat with me - but it didn't help, either. So, we keep a hat on both for now, and hope that either their Nanny, Sangye, can make Deven sit still; or better yet, Naani and Grandpa don't notice the loooong hair behind Deven's ears because he's so cute eating strawberries (as he was doing in the 2nd photo), and so they just don't notice things, when they come to visit later this week!

Newsflash: Mom can manage 2 boys

San Francisco, June 9, 2009: Mom of two [that's ME], who just over 2 years ago didn't even know how to change a diaper, is now capable of managing two boys, realized today taht she is completely capable of doing so - even if it is exhausting.

MMm-aah Went The Little Green Frog One Day is a pernnial crowd-pleaser and Rohan-fuss-slower, but even just a good silly face and a giggle works. :)

Tomorrow we're having new windows installed at home - a precursor of the bathroom remodel and wall-replacement work we're planning to do as well. Hope it goes smoothly!

Photos of Deven on the beach and Mount Rainier are from Yogesh, Deven, & Daadi's Memorial Day weekend visit to Auntie Kathleen's in Seattle.

Photos of Deven's first bashing of a pinata are from friend Debi's hubby Shaughn's birthday party, at Golden Gate Park on Saturday. After seeing the amount of fun he had bashing the poor pinata, I have a feeling we will need pinatas at all future Sharma birthday parties...

It's days like Saturday, where it was warm in Golden Gate Park all afternoon and there wasn't a cloud in the sky, that make me want to stay here. Unfortunately we get a lot of the cold Northern Cal summers as well - then I want to go somewhere warm (note the sweater, layers, and jeans on Deven - it was July 6!)

Crawl...Walk...Run... (but wiggle first)

Rohan has started sitting up on his own - a fact I discovered only by letting him sit between my legs - then moving my legs without thinking about it, and realizing that he didn't topple over and start screaming.

He likes to be on his belly more than Deven - loves pushing up into 'baby cobra' as the photo here shows.

I also include this photo of him in the doorway-bouncer - do you remember when Deven was using the same bouncer? Now Deven's the (mostly) nice big brother. Like any good 2 year old, however, Deven has his moments of sweetness, followed by wanting to squash Rohan: Today, it was all about the 'chashma' (glasses). In this case, we ahve a pair of infant sunglasses - we put them on Rohan, and Deven almost broke them in his angsty attempts to take them off and remind us that they were DEVEN's glasses. Hmm.

Other photos are from Yogesh, Daadi, & Deven's Memorial Day trip to visit Auntie Kathleen in Seattle. She lives in a wonderful home overlooking Mount Rainier, and all the Sharmas had a blast.

Deven spent time playing in the water on the beach...

...'helping' Auntie Kathleen in her garden (really just watching the water run, but what else do toddlers do to have fun?), and - my favorite - shopping at the local thrift store (where Daadi happily picked up this lovely long cashmere sweater-coat for only $7!)
